"I don't paint, I color" said a 5 year old me to my older sister. She was pretending to be reporter and recorded me on her new tape recorder. Almost 45 years later my reply would most likely be the same. I still find color to be the most important spark in my creativity. Yes, I love form and composition but color is my first true love.
Flowers are everywhere, a bit early but I'll take them any way any how. There range of color and shapes are so inspiring.
Texture comes second to color and using gesso, many layers of paint, ink and crayons makes lovely textures.
It's raining here in N.Y.,but, April showers will surely bring many more May flowers.
Even if it is dreary outside you can let all your colors shine on the inside.
So what sparks your creativity? Let me know in the comment section. I'd love to hear from you.
Happy Sunday!

A wonderful array of color and floral goodness. Color yes too, orange, turquoise, early spring green, I could go on.....xox
I LOVE your use of colour, but I am not the best at using clashing colours,it always scares me a little, but texture is my thing the more layers and added bits the better.
I was and still am the exact same way as you've just written about so beautifully here, Denni. When I was a kid, the best thing in the world to me was colouring books and crayons. I could do that for hours and hours, blissfully. It's the same way now, except I use paints and wood and canvas or watercolour paper, rather than colouring books and crayons. But give me the crayons and the colouring books again, and I'd be back on the floor, lying on my belly, colouring blissfully, once again.
Like you, yes, I do paint. But what I really do is colour. I love colour. And I love these that you've shared with us today, Denni.
I feel absolutely the same way. Concept is more important to me ultimately, but color seems to be taking over form for me in my life. I get obsessions with color schemes that repeat themselves in paintings. Your colors are absolutely lovely, and the texture you use is as well!
What beautiful work! Stunning. I love colour too - but I keep using my favourites -orange and blue- I need to let go more. I was going to say the second is my favourite ...but I must also choose the fourth and fifth too! You have inspired me... thank you.
