Day of the dead Dotee doll

I'm working on making Dotee dolls for an art swap.  This is what I've made so far.  I'm trying different designs for her dress.  Don't look too closely at my beginner sewing skills.

I'll post their final photos when finished.

I'm a pack rat for art supplies. I have a hard time throwing things out that I could possibly use for art. I recycle everything. Newspaper I paint to make pages for journals. I also just sew them together to make a quick little journal. Nothing special but it works great for collages.

Since I have a hard time wasting anything, I take art that didn't come out well and tear it up. I collage it to the page, save elements I like and paint over the rest.

It makes the page nicely texturized.
Here is how it turned out.

Pretty good for some old art pages and newspaper that would have otherwise been thrown out.

I've been painting boxes too.  They can work just like a chunky, small canvas.  I may put an object inside so that it is more interesting...it's a work in progress.

That's all folk's!

I'm back after another long blog break! I want to get back into the momentum of blogging regularly.

Yesterday was so beautiful, just like a spring day here on Long Island. Sunny, warm, the crocuses were all in bloom! Yea!

I hope everyone had a nice St. Patrick's day. It was my 48th Birthday yesterday. I'm proud to say that I had the priviledge to turn 48.

My mom and sister took me out to lunch and some shopping. It is so nice to have women around you at your birhday. Women show up with brightly wrapped presents and cards! I love men but they don't celebrate the way we girls do.

Later, my husband and kids had cake for me and a present. I opened up a new sewing machine! Yeah!

I don't really know much about sewing but last night I sewed up a little tote just by following my instincts. I think I'm going to enjoy this. I took a quilting class in February and hand stitched everything so this is going to save me some time. I've opened up a whole new art medium and can't wait to use sewing in my art projects.

Here is the quilt I'm trying to finish. I'll be able to whip through it much more quickly with my new machine.

I also received this lovely vase. I added some tulips. I love pink and yellow together.

It's time to make a new header. Winter theme is over! Flowers and color and sunshine are coming.

I've been making art journals too. They're really fun to do. Here is a peek at some of my pages. They are a mixed bag of collage, drawing and painting.

I really like the look of adding envelopes and flaps on some of the pages.

I'm intrigued by the spooky and odd in life. I love old images too. It's too much for some people, but I like it.

Sometimes I like abstract and sometimes just pretty colors!

I do hope you'll come and visit again, I promise I won't stay away too long!

Cheers! Hope your weather is warm and sunny too!
