Secret Lives of Artist's...hummmm let me see...my biggest secret is the behind the scenes. My everyday life.
Those photos that you never snap to show on your blog of course. The bloopers, the sketches that may take hours before you see the finished piece.
Also the big mess!
Today on the most gorgeous spring day...warm, sunny,
So, I've dared to leave all the cleaning, errands, cooking until I get some painting time in. My home is a mess but I get to have time alone in peace to paint.
Here is my messy area where I paint. I don't have a studio, I'm right there in the living room, where I do my living!

I should be outside here, sitting on the patio, gardening or even painting outside...
But I am not.
I'm inside.
I should be doing laundry, vacuuming, cooking and generally taking care of my home so that when the kids come home they have a tidy place and the smell of some dinner cooking....
My biggest secret? I do art before anything else. I changed my perspective. I used to do everything first and art was there if I had time. You know what happens...you never get to the art!

Yup, it's just me, the dog and the cat.
Next I cook dinner, then I clean, then the kids are home. Yeah, the laundry is not finished, the cleaning is so soo...but my kids come home to the smell of dinner cooking and a HAPPY MOM!
What are your secrets?

Mine is not a secret to anyone who knows me Art is always done first thing when all is quiet and nobody about, usually about 5.30 in the morning until about 8am. Artwork is done on the dining table as haven't the luxury of a studio. But thats my time and I love it. Annette

My secrets are the reverse. I do the cleaning, cooking, washing, shopping, and I never have time to paint. I try to go in my studio but don't make the time for it. I have a little table in the house where I art journal when I have time. I wish I could do what you do, but my husband still works. Oh woe is me.:)))
Hi Denni, your painting is looking great. You look like you have great light in your living room, that's a plus!
If I told you my secrets, I'd have to kill you. ;) But I love to hear yours! haha
Happy PPF!
Oh wow just loving your painting Denni, Annette x
Good for you! Putting your art first! I was the opposite when my kids were growing up, doing all the other stuff first. Now that I'm growing up I have my priorities straight! My house is still messy, my laundry and dishes are rarely finished, but I paint almost every day and loving my life. Happy PPF!
As long as the priorities are met, everything else can wait and art can take over....much happier mom living this way. I am much like you are in that department. My so called studio is really a dining-room with no dining-room furniture;great excuse for not having one.....haha! Love your art work and nice to know happy mom = happy kids!!

That balance is the hardest of all to find- at least for me! I alternate days where I put painting first and then laundry and other days where it's the reverse...The fact that 20 minutes after my kids are home, you can't really tell the house was tidy (much less clean ;))at any point in the day lets me know that I'm doing the right thing. I might not have dinner on the stove at 3:30 but it's always ready by 7....and I'm typically content with the way things are :)
Oh and I LOVE your painting by the way- so serene and lovely- those glowing colors are wonderful!
