In keeping with my "Winter Bliss" campaign (I'm tryng to embrace the winter as much as I can) I'm getting out more this winter and it has been fun.
We headed out to the park yesterday to a tiny little slope that my kids love to sleigh ride on. The slope is "barely there" so small because where I live there are no hills! I grew up on the other side of Long Island called the North Shore where it is all hill country. I even grew up on a hill. Now, I live on the South Shore where it is totally flat. It's the side with the ocean which is great in the summer. The winter however, I find it lacking in places to get some good hills for sleigh riding.
This is not the slope, did you really think I was going to let my kids ride into the pond? The pond was frozen but not enough for ice skating. Another winter activity that I love.
They are so happy sleigh riding, I should clarify, snow board riding.
Eating snow is his great past time.
And their off!
Me and their Dad like to go too. I went down a couple times, it's still so much fun even as an adult. I wouldn't let my husband take pictures though. I have enough embarrassing pictures of me sleigh riding last year.
I was the evil one this year I got photos of him!
My husband tried the stand up snow board. He went flying and then face down in the snow! Hee, Hee. I wish my camera caught it. So funny!
I only caught it at the bottom. The snow board was left halfway at the top, basically he rode his down coat all the way to the bottom. ;)
I was getting cold so I decided to walk through the park a bit and take photos.
I love to walk through the quiet snow in winter. I always feel the presence of God out in nature. The beauty and peace feels like God is saying "Here child, I give to you my perfect peace. I give to you my artistry, a magical sunset for those who take the time to stop and see".
I love all of God's creatures. The ducks came up to see if I had any food.
They were running up to me and slipping and falling on the ice.
Look how sweet.
They left quickly when they found out that I had no food for them.
I felt bad for the ducks, they seemed like they were starving. They probably are very hungry because all the grass is covered in snow. The snow is too deep for them to walk in. A lot of people go to the pond in nice weather and feed the ducks bread. Bread is not good for them. They become accustomed to being fed by humans as well. Since I know that these ducks are used to being feed a lot of supplemental bread, I figured a little treat of duck chow would be good for them.
So while the others were content sleigh riding, I went down to the pet store and bought some duck chow.
I picked up some hot chocolate for us!
My boys enjoyed feeding the ducks they felt good about themselves for doing so.
Wherever you live, if it's cold outside, remember your feathered friends too!
Now for some New Years Fun!
